There's a lot of stuff in the news right now about sex addiction, because of the scandal involving Tiger Woods; as well as Sandra Bullock and Jesse James.
Of course, the entertainment industry is really promiscuous. I think sex is often offered to rock stars and actors like rum used to be given to officers in the navy while they were on long voyages, turning some of them into alcoholics. Any kind of addiction is just about a high, to avoid feeling what's really going on in life. It short circuits the possibility of deeper connections, like love and devotion. I've known people in the industry who go through one sex partner after another; in fact, sometimes even a few in one week. It kind of ruins their lives and hurts everyone around them. They end up looking pretty jaded and pretty silly.
In the 1960's there was the "Free Love" movement, in which it perfectly acceptable to sleep with numerous partners. Followers of the free love movement not only accepted but encouraged promiscuity. This was okay, before this was before AIDS came into the world. I hate to say it, but the sad truth is the "Free Love" movement is over and now we all need to be a lot more careful and take better care of ourselves.
I think we need to heal our society's relationship with sexuality. Sex can be such a beautiful and sacred thing between two people, and we need to stop treating it like it's fast food.
