Have you got the balls to get off the marketplace and into your own imagination? One of my all time favorite quotes is by the philosopher Nieitche. He said "ye who has the will to create, go far from the marketplace where the air is clear and the actors and men of fashion do not lurk. It is only there you'll find your true originality." Well, I'm paraphrasing, but you get my point. More and more, I love blazing my own trail. For me, the road less traveled is far more inspiring than a tried and teested path. Of course, some days I do end up getting caught in the thistles, falling off my horse, and ending up with my face down in the mud. But, there are other days where I experience unimaginable beauty. Ah, it's that good! Sunsets that are so extraordinary, human kindness which is profound. I just feel so blessed to be alive to witness all this magic. So I want to encourage anyone with the words of Joseph Campbell: "Follow your bliss!" If there's something you know in your heart to be your true destiny, do it! If there is some inner calling you have, blaze it! Joseph Campbell also said: "hero, on this journey, nothing is for sure. The only thing you know for sure is that you will be changed by the journey." When I first heard these words, I was 20-something, up on the mountains of Spain, trying to figure out what I wanted to do, whether I wanted to continue acting, to write a film script, and then it came to me: what I really wanted to do was rock and roll! So as one does, I danced under the moon and asked for direction, and the moon said "California! Go to California!" Hey, you may laugh, but the primal forces of nature are what you need to connect with to have the raw energy to live your dreams. I never imagined it would be this good blazing a trail out in the wild west. I remember when I first arrived in America, me and my sister, who had just read Jack Keroac's On the Road, sitting in Central Park with a Dictaphone. We considered ourselves like spiritual journalists at the time. I proudly said into the Dictaphone: "we are here in the United States of America to put it to the test. Does the free spirit still exist in modern America today?" I can honestly say yeah! The free spirit is alive and well in America. We headed out West, as we were convinced in our young minds that the next spiritual revolution, just like in the 1960's was gonna come up from the west coast of America, and if there was a happening, we wanted to be part of it! Of course I now realize that the gigantic shift in consciousness which is happening right now, attuning the earth to more peace love and bliss is actually happening all over the world. Joseph Campbell believed the more people living their bliss, the more lit up the planet would be. He believed when one person is inspired to live their bliss, they inspire other people to also live their bliss, and this, he felt, and I honestly feel, is the soul purpose of each human being during their life on this earth. What do I love to do? I love to perform! I love to rock out! I love to sing! I love to write songs and connect with people. What do YOU love to do? It's all a very individual thing. It's not to do with grades at college and what your parents said you should be when you grow up. It's to do with that magical vibration where you feel so alive you could just take on the world. Joseph Campbell said you can always read a person when they're talking about their bliss. A little light springs up behind their eyes like a smile. We are all different, and that's the point. There's no judgment. Just get inspired and blaze your own trail. It all comes down to what makes you happy in the end. It's taken me a long time to really tune in to my bliss. As Neitzche said, the marketplace will scream within you long after you have departed it. Sometimes I'll find myself in this pure space of possibilities. Maybe I'm sitting out in the desert under these huge American skies, contemplating the billions of grains of sand. Maybe I'm sitting on stage with a warm spotlight on me, knowing I'm about to give the best I have. Maybe it's hearing the first words of a new song, an inspired song, a song you know in your soul people will love. Whatever it is you love, tune in. You are a precious beacon of light when you do what you love.
